Below we publish our response to the Commission on Alcohol Harm, which has been established to examine the current evidence on alcohol harm, recent trends in alcohol harm and the changes needed to reduce the harm caused by alcohol. The Commission is supported by the Alcohol Health Alliance.
Our response highlights:
- The significant cuts to funding for substance misuse services across the country, which are as high as 50 per cent in some areas.
- The increasing integration of alcohol and drug treatment services, largely in response to funding cuts, which may affect the ability of treatment services to reach people with an alcohol problem.
- The need to look at alcohol misuse in the context of other areas of multiple complex needs.
