Ukrainians fleeing war in their country are entitled to free access of public services in the UK, including local authority commissioned drug and alcohol services.

Legislation was passed earlier this month to ensure this group would receive the support they needed. Additional government guidance makes it clear that refugees and their dependents are exempt from healthcare charged.

Local government services will play a vital role supporting those arriving, and drug and alcohol services should be proud to play their role as part of that support.

Further guidance for local areas has been published by the Local Government Association.
